Scheidt Taking Part In The Kiel Week

The legendary Brazilian Olympic sailor, Robert Scheidt, is heading into the Kiel Week where he will be taking part in the 49er skiff class.


The 44-year-old Scheidt has won the Olympic medal five times. It is a great honor for the organizers of the KielerWoche sailing regatta event to have him competing in the 49er skiff class. He will be seen racing with his team mate Gabriel Borges.

The five-time Olympic medalist will not have an easy way into the regatta event. He will be facing a tough challenge from Germans Thomas Ploessel and Erik Heil. They have won the 49er Olympic bronze medal at the Rio Olympics last year. Scheidt will not be deterred by the presence of the Germans as he has the experience and the skills to topple any team on his day. He has had an extraordinary sailing career so far and will be looking to make it big at the Kiel Week.

The skiff 49er for the women’s category also sees some of the best sailors in action. The Olympic silver medalists Molly Meech and Alex Maloney from New Zealand are taking part in the Kiel Week. Maloney will be looking to have a great week here like what her brother Andy is having at the 35th edition of the America’s Cup as being a team member of the Emirates Team New Zealand.

The KielerWoche is the world’s largest regatta event and it has attracted a lot of the sailing teams from all over the globe. This year there will be Indians take part in the men’s and the women’s 470 fleet. The turnout for most of the events at the KielerWoche is pretty good. There are also a lot of Olympians and Olympic medal holder tang part in this prestigious event and the fans will get to see a lot of stars in action.
